Hola Señoras y Señores …
It’s time for a FIESTA!
So what exactly IS “Cinco de Mayo?” Well, the obvious answer is 5th of May.
But what makes May 5th special? Many have come to believe that it is Mexican Independence Day (similar to our 4th of July), but that is on September 16. Cinco de Mayo – or the fifth of May – commemorates the Mexican army’s 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War (1861-1867). It’s a relatively minor holiday in Mexico, but in the United States Cinco de Mayo has evolved into a celebration of Mexican culture and heritage. Many celebrations include parades, mariachi music, and street festivals in cities and towns across Mexico and the United States.
More information about the holiday can be found here.
Whether you are of Mexican descent or not, almost everyone loves Mexican food, and we all love an excuse to have a party!
Since it’s party time, a special edition of Ten ‘n Ten is in order. Instead of ten individual features, I’ve broken our party up into ten categories with three features in each category. That’s 30 features! So get your marachas and tambourines ready, and let’s party!
To start our fiesta off, my tutorial for a Quick & Easy Bunting will have you porch or patio bright and decorative in no time.
