I’m so excited to share with you the next installment of our Sunnyside Manor introduction.
If you haven’t had a chance to peek at Part One, you can find that post HERE.
Last week we focused on the exterior and the basement. It’s unanimous … everyone LOVES the porches! Seriously … I spend way more time pinning awesome porch ideas than just about anything else.
This week my focus is on the upstairs … bedrooms, bathrooms, laundry room and a special surprise!
So let’s get started … (warning … super duper picture heavy!)
Stairs
One of the interesting components to this house is that it has three stairwells … one that goes from the main floor down to the basement, and two that go from the main floor to the upstairs.
The “front stairs” go from the front entry to the upstairs landing. The door to the left leads to the stairs that go down to the basement.
The “back stairs” start in the mud room and go up to the back of the master suite.
Laundry Room
The first room to the left at the top of the stairs is the Laundry Room. The house came with this washer/dryer set. Love that there is a sink. Directly across from the sink is an open closet with wire shelves. Lots of plans for this room … thanks to Pinterest!
Closets
One thing this house is not short on is closet and storage space. The upstairs landing has 7 doors and two of those are for closets. The first is a storage closet …
… and the second is a linen closet.
Bedrooms
In addition to the Master, there are two bedrooms, both 14′ x 12′. Each bedroom has a large walk-in closet with wire shelving. Good thing we had one girl and one boy to fill these rooms!
Bathroom
The kids have their own bathroom. I can honestly say I about fell over when I saw the vanity in this bathroom. Several months before purchasing this house I was leafing through a Pottery Barn catalog and saw this beauty:
Drooling? Yea … so was I. It would never happen. These bathrooms are only in magazines and on Pinterest, right?
Maybe not! …
Here’s our bathroom … definitely needs some accessorizing and a new paint color … little guy really isn’t into the pink, especially since he’s not that little … more like 13.
It’s a good thing it already came with the house, ‘cuz I don’t think I’d ever pay $2500.00 for a bathroom vanity, especially not for the kids.
Directly across from the sink is the tub/shower. The doorway (shown) in the mirror goes to the potty room.
Master Suite
The first thing you need to know is that the entire suite itself is huge. But … there is a downside … it’s kinda’ broken up into smaller units. You’ll see what I mean in a minute.
The bedroom itself is relatively small compared to what one might expect for this size house. It’s only 17′ x 12′. One wall has two windows, the second wall the door to the bathroom, the third wall the french doors to the upstairs landing, and the fourth wall no doors or windows, but it’s a 12′ wall that the bathroom door and french doors open towards.
And since there are sconce lights already on one wall, it’s a no-brainer where the bed goes. Fortunately our king-size bed fit just perfect. The biggest highlight of this room by far is the gorgeous tray ceiling. The door you see on the right goes into the master bathroom.
The Master Bathroom … ahhhhh … what can I say. Pictures don’t quite do it justice, especially the walk-in shower.
The hall of doors … the left goes to the master closet, the french doors to a linen closet, the door to the right goes to the master bedroom.
The vanities are also from Pottery Barn. They are an earlier version of their Classic vanity.
The walk-in shower is definitely the best feature of the master bathroom. It is completely tiled in white … the ceiling in square on point, the walls with subway tile, and the floor in a hexagon mosaic. It has two adjustable shower heads and a rain-shower head.
The master toilet room is literally the smallest room in the house 🙂
The master closet is HUGE! Literally … it’s like a whole room … bigger than most second bedrooms. It’s 13′ x 13′. WAY MORE ROOM than we have clothes and shoes for. The door on the right comes in from the bathroom. The second picture shows the other side of the closet.
Okay … here’s the surprise I was telling you about. Try and stay with me here.
There’s another door in the closet directly across from the door coming in from the bathroom. That door leads to this …
It’s a loft space that is over the mudroom and garage. At the end of the loft is a private office / bedroom (without a closet.)
This picture is looking from the office back into the loft. See the stairs? Those are the back stairs coming up to the master suite from the mud room.
The back room we turned into a bedroom for our middle son. He’s a senior in high school and we figured he’d like the privacy and the quick access to the kitchen. He’ll be heading off to college in the fall, so I’m not quite sure what we’ll do with this room. Probably leave it for him for when he comes home. The loft we’ve kind of turned into a reading nook. Not sure what this space will ultimately be.
An interesting note … the master closet, loft and back room are the only carpeted areas of the house. All the bedrooms and the entire main level are hardwood floors. The bathrooms all have cork flooring.
Another interesting note … I am so NOT a blue wall kinda gal. Nothing wrong with it … it’s just not me. Great as an accent or pops of it here and there, but not everywhere. But believe it or not, I haven’t changed it yet … at least not upstairs. It’s kind of grown on me a bit. Won’t stay that way for forever, but it’s all good for now.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
So … what do you think? I’d love to hear your ideas for how you’d use the loft space and the back room.

Love it! Everything is so bright and sunny. Love all of the white and those vanities are to DIE for! When we bought our home all of the baseboards were painted tan. Not me at all, but it was like new so I have put up with it for 3 years. So ready for them to be white. We are finishing our basement. Going to ask the painters what they would charge to paint all woodwork upstairs as well. Great storage and love the beautiful wood floors. We have a loft and right now it is a play room for the grandies. I have used alot of vintage toys and put some old game boards on the walls. I have seen them used as media rooms, craft rooms, and bedrooms. Can’t wait to see more! Thanks for sharing with Share Your Cup.
hugs,

Hi Lani, so nice to meet you. I just read thru your first post, you have such a wonderful home. What a blessing it is, and I loved hearing how God worked thru all the details! I’m looking forward to seeing it evolve. so glad you joined in for the party!
Beautiful home! Your closet is perfect for a dressing room (pretty popular here in Nashville) and will cut down on that sort of clutter in your bedroom. I love the space!
Wow, your home is beautiful! My mind would be spinning out of control with ideas for all the decorating potential. Enjoy, it is truly wonderful!
A snuggery, I like that!!! A special place for you with your personal treasures!!! Wow, what a house you have, have never seen anything like it before…….best wishes to you and can’t wait to see it decorated!!!
Love your blues and bath vanity!!!! New follow. Follow back at http://www.sewsweetvintage.com/2013/03/brilliant-2013.html
That house is HUGE, I don’t know anyone that lives in a place that big.
If I were you, I would make that ridiculously huge master closet smaller, adding some of that space to your bedroom. I dream of having a cozy corner in my bedroom to sit and read. Still hoping to squeeze that out of our room, I found a small chair on the street, but must reupholster. But let’s just say we have a queen size, because a king would take up too much space!
Your house is absolutely gorgeous! It looks so huge and I love the kids’ bathroom. I noticed your love of aqua and red on your sidebar…do you know of the blog called Simplify? The colors and style make me think of her.
Amazing home! Can’t wait to see what you do with it. I am in love with it. I would use that upstairs place for a private place for you! Like a place to blog or craft, or both!
Thank you Nicki!
I can’t wait to see what we do with it either. If I could just get the fine folks from Pinterest to come and replicate all my boards in real life, I’d be in heaven! It will take time, but we’ll get there, blogging as we go 🙂
Hugs & Blessings …

OMG, it is the PERFECT home!!! Just so you know, your closet is bigger than my bedroom. LOL God bless your beautiful new home.
Oh Pam …
Thank you so much! This house is 100% a gift from God. There’s no way we would have been able to get this without His perfect will. Every day we thank Him for this blessing!

Wow! What a great space. Of course it would make a great office or nursery or guest room BUT after parenting for the last 42 years I would make it my own space! A Snuggery is what the British call them…a small room filled with things you love…books; sewing, crafting, painting supplies; teacups, silver. That is what is in my Snuggery & the pullout sofa is for my granddaughter. We have Night Night tea every night before bedtime (milk & strawberry syrup actually) when she visits. We use real teacups and speak with English accents.
Hi Suzi!
Ooooohhh … I like the idea of a “snuggery.” I guess we would call that a mom-cave here in the states. What a special place for you and your granddaughter! Thank you so much for visiting 🙂
