Do you have fond memories of making biscuits with your mom or grandma?
Biscuits are a staple with almost all comfort food meals, especially if you live in the southern part of the states. Traditional biscuits are made using flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, butter, and, of course, buttermilk. They are the perfect addition to saucy dishes because they have a wonderful crust and are light and fluffy on the inside.
Biscuits can also be served as a dish all by themselves, complemented by a plethora of other items including melted butter, gravy, jams and jellies, fresh fruit, syrup, honey, or sliced in half to make a ham, bacon, or sausage and egg sandwich. The possibilities are endless.
Although technically I do not live in the South, many of its traditions are prevalent here in Virginia, one of them being biscuits. I have yet to make a consistent batch of buttermilk biscuits, but I’m working on it! Who knows, maybe someday one of my grandkids will become a blogger and swoon about “my grandma’s biscuits.”
