One can never be too late for a party, right?
Not even if the party started in January …
of 2011 !?
I had all the good intentions of being there on time … really, I did!
I even knew exactly what I was going to bring to the party …
But then life got in the way … more specifically a cross-country move … and everything had to get packed up in a box and put in a big truck.
Once we landed in our new house and I started unpacking the gazillion boxes of crafty/quilty love that I just HAD to bring with me, I came across my beloved Snippets Jelly Roll … just begging, crying for me to take her to the party. I was willing to oblige now that I had the perfect room for her to shine in.
So began the task of stitching 80 strips of fabric together … 40 from the Snippets Jelly Roll and 40 from a White Solid Jelly Roll. Subcut, stitch, stitch, stitch, stitch, I didn’t think it would ever end. I really wanted it to fit a queen bed, so I raided my stash for other lonely scraps of Snippets that I had, and added a few borders. The back is also made from my pieces in my stash. Yep … I had some pretty big pieces of those darling cut-out panels from the Snippets line.
In my entire history of quilting, I’ve never quilted anything larger than a table-runner or table-topper. I have an awesome sister-in-law that’s always done my quilting for me. But I was in a rush … company was coming in a week and I wanted to get this baby done! All I was doing was straight-stitching on the diagonal … how hard could that be?
Let’s just say that about 1/4th of the quilting was done by the time the company arrived. I folded it all up, put it in my quilting area (down in the dungeon), and there it sat for 7 whole months. I just couldn’t get up enough arm muscles to pull it out and finish it.
But then …
one quiet, cloudy day …
as I was innocently browsing through the world wide web …
I came across this little ‘ole blog.
… with a little contest.
All the fireworks went off in my brain …
“You’ve got a project you could enter.”
“You’ve got plenty of time.”
“Pull it out and get it done!”
And so I did ..
It’s amazing what a little motivation can do. It didn’t take me long at all. And now I have a beautiful crisp, white, fresh, vintage-style quilt gracing our guest room bed.
A special THANK YOU to Rach at Family Ever After for hosting Sew-Vivor and giving me the kick I needed to get this done.
