Never Too Late For the Party …

One can never be too late for a party, right?

Postage Stamp Quilt Along

Not even if the party started in January …

of 2011 !?

I had all the good intentions of being there on time … really, I did!

I even knew exactly what I was going to bring to the party …

Snippets by American Jane

But then life got in the way … more specifically a cross-country move … and everything had to get packed up in a box and put in a big truck.

Moving Truck

Once we landed in our new house and I started unpacking the gazillion boxes of crafty/quilty love that I just HAD to bring with me, I came across my beloved Snippets Jelly Roll … just begging, crying for me to take her to the party.  I was willing to oblige now that I had the perfect room for her to shine in.

So began the task of stitching 80 strips of fabric together … 40 from the Snippets Jelly Roll and 40 from a White Solid Jelly Roll.  Subcut, stitch, stitch, stitch, stitch, I didn’t think it would ever end.  I really wanted it to fit a queen bed, so I raided my stash for other lonely scraps of Snippets that I had, and added a few borders.  The back is also made from my pieces in my stash.  Yep … I had some pretty big pieces of those darling cut-out panels from the Snippets line.

In my entire history of quilting, I’ve never quilted anything larger than a table-runner or table-topper.  I have an awesome sister-in-law that’s always done my quilting for me.  But I was in a rush … company was coming in a week and I wanted to get this baby done!  All I was doing was straight-stitching on the diagonal … how hard could that be?

Let’s just say that about 1/4th of the quilting was done by the time the company arrived.  I folded it all up, put it in my quilting area (down in the dungeon), and there it sat for 7 whole months.  I just couldn’t get up enough arm muscles to pull it out and finish it.

But then …
one quiet, cloudy day …
as I was innocently browsing through the world wide web …
I came across this little ‘ole blog.
… with a little contest.

All the fireworks went off in my brain …
“You’ve got a project you could enter.”
“You’ve got plenty of time.”
“Pull it out and get it done!”

And so I did ..

It’s amazing what a little motivation can do.  It didn’t take me long at all.  And now I have a beautiful crisp, white, fresh, vintage-style quilt gracing our guest room bed.

Thank you so much JoAnn :)
I needed to get it done quickly, so didn’t have time to send it to a long-armer. Diagonal was easy, and definitely works well with this pattern.

This is too darling! We are swapping 2 1/2 inch squares in our quilt group to do a postage stamp quilt. Have till Sept. 2014 to finish it because we exchange squares each month. We are trying that new Quilt in a day grid. Otherwise I would sew it like you did in strips. Hope mine turns out even half as cute.

Thank you so much! It is fun to walk into that room and see it all done. Now I can move on to doing the curtains and maybe even a matching shower curtain.

Beautiful, beautiful! I love the picture of your colorful quilt against the white snow! It must feel wonderful to have it completed! I know you are ecstatic to have found the push you needed to finish it. Lucky guest!!!! I will try to follow you, not sure if we have the ability to link together, but I hope so. If not, I’ll certainly put you on my sidebar. Can’t wait to look around your blog more!

      Thank you Leslie!
It had literally just finished snowing that day when I went out and took those. I was so afraid the quilt would get soaked. Thankfully it didn’t.
Thank you so much for adding me to your sidebar. I’m looking forward to following you as well!

Thank you so much Maggie! Quilting is actually very easy. It is almost quite literally as simple as cutting up fabric and straight stitching it all back together again!

Yes I am Julie. I have a few other stitchy projects planned for this room, and I wouldn’t/couldn’t start them until this one was done! So glad I kicked procrastination right out the door!

Thank you so much Melissa. The polka-dot pillow cases are actually from Target. I thought they’d be a cute addition to the look I was going for.

      Hi Dawn,
I know what you mean. The stack is starting to pile here. Fortunately many of my quilts are “seasonal,” so they are only out for a month or so at a time.

It’s magnificent, Lani! I love postage-stamp quilts. My sweet mother is the quilt-queen in our family and has made a couple of postage stamp patterns in years past. So much labor and love that go into them.

I’m in love with your quilt!!! I’ve been buying small pieces of fabrics to gear myself up to make a quilt. I’ve been sewing for years, but have never made a quilt. Now that we’ve got grandchildren, I want to start making quilts for them, and your quilt is giving me some extra motivation to get started. Gorgeous!!!

    Visiting from WOW.
